I've never bet on sports, except dog and horse racing. I wasn't very good at it. Mostly I just bet on myself. I was a pool hustler most of my life and could beat 90% of the people I met in bars. I almost always left the bar with more money than I came in with after a night of partying. I did it full time for several years until it became more like a job, so I went back to just doing it part time. I started and ran the biggest Texas Hold-Em league on the Texas coast. I got very good at it and won many trips to Vegas, plus I got invited to lots of cash games. While on the coast I became familiar with the game rooms and actually did quite well, once I figured out how the algorithms controlled the outcome. The problem was once you start winning a lot they don't want you to come back. They thought I was cheating somehow, but it was more like card counting, which I guess isn't allowed in Vegas either. When you get an edge that allows you to beat the odds, they're no longer interested in your money! Imagine that!
